A Campaign, launched by Councillor Mark Farmer, called Safer Routes, has been hailed a major success, as the number of recorded violent Crime instances in the City Centre falls massively.

The Scheme deals with the issues presented by managing a successful nighttime economy.

Measures include-

New well lit routes throughout the City Centre

Street Marshal's that keep a check on people waiting for taxi's

Street Pastors who defuse difficult situations

A Night Bus to enable people get home safely

An SOS bus, that deals with minor injuries, helping to keep the pressure off the local accident and emergency department.

Councillor Mark Farmer said,

"I am pleased that this project has made such a difference. Leicester is now bucking the national trend on violent crime- we are seeing a reduction rather than increase"
