Paul Smith, a former scout said, "The aim of scouting is to promote the development of young people to help them achieve their full capacity of responsible citizens."

Dale Keeling, the City Councillor for the Freemen Ward said, "The scouting organisations do a fantastic job in helping young people become valued members of their community."

The event marked 100 years since the organisations founder, Robert Baden Powell gave a speech in the Council Chambers. Scout organisations from all over Leicestershire joined the Lord Mayor and Mayoress of Leicester at the packed event.
