Residents turned up to the first Area Committee for Castle Ward last night.

The Committee was held for the first time in the Clarendon Park area and chaired by Knighton Lib Dem Cllr Gary Hunt.

Cllr Debbie Almey (photo) and Cllr Joan Garrity both put in requests for funds to spend on Christmas decorations for Queens Road and the Allendale Road shopping area - Both requests were granted by the committee.

One of the main ways you can engage with the city council and its officers to improve life in your ward is through your Area Committee. There are nine areas in Leicester plus the city centre currently based on groupings of 2-3 wards - four areas already have Area Committees, and Castle Ward now has one.

The Committees are chaired by councillors, but also involve other key agencies such as the police and health.

Area Committee meetings are for everyone living in the area, and are open to anyone to attend.

The second on Monday 22 January 2007, 6.30-8.30pm venue to be confirmed
