Aylestone Ward Councillor Nigel Porter: "Cover up the back of the Corn Exchange with Trellis, Ivy and Other Plants
Leicester City Council are expected to spend between £1.8million and £2 million on renovating the back of the Corn Exchange in Leicester's Market Place in the coming weeks. The current back of the building appears in a sorry state since the demolition of the Indoor Market. The plan is to place a large screen to cover up, vents, ducts and fire escapes.
Aylestone Ward sole Leicester Liberal Democrat Councillor, Nigel Porter advised the Leicester Mercury:
"I have been speaking to residents and they want to know why you couldn't just put up a massive trellis and cover it in ivy and have a green wall of other plants.
"That would surely be much cheaper than sticking up a massive rendered wall."
He added: "It would look better, be much more environmentally friendly and would at least show some imagination."
