Aylestone Ward Councillor, Nigel Porter

Cllr Nigel Porter, Liberal Democrat Councillor for Aylestone Ward recently wrote a letter to the Leicester Mercury supporting our Armed Forces in the City of Leicester countering a previous correspondents view to the local newspaper.

Cllr Porter wrote:

"The Armed Forces do a good job and we should be proud of them.

The person who wrote the letter may find it distateful but someone has to do it. If it was not for the brave sacrifice our service men and women made, we would not have the freedom to write to a newspaper to criticize the military. Someones son or daughter will have to take on the role to keep us safe; so we are free to stroll around the City Centre on a Saturday afternoon. In schools, children are taught British values, which include tolerance to others, respect for people who help us and democracy; none of these would be possible if our armed forces hadn't defeated Hitler."
