Cllr Nigel Porter: Every Leicester resident should be given a face mask to avoid a second wave of COVID-19. 81% of Leicestershire Live readers support this move.
Leicester's Liberal Democrat Councillor, Aylestone Ward's Nigel Porter has called for every Leicester resident to recieve face masks or some form of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to wear if they wish. Fearing a second wave of the COVID-19 as the current lockdown rules are relaxed, Councillor Porter adds he does not trust the Conservative Government strategy to deal with the virus.
Speaking via a videolink to Leicester City Council, Cllr Porter said " This pandemic is in no sense of the word over. I have very real concerns, as do many public health experts in the country that the Government is heading down the route of herd immunity. We are in a strong position as a city council to plough our own furrow in preventing a second peak.
One route we should be looking at is the introduction of face masks for every resident of Leicester who should wish to wear one. Clearly that could be a way we constructively reduce the spread."
