City residents can expect a visit from the city council as a new doorstep campaign to increase recycling participation rates gets underway at the end of January.

The recycling message will be taken to the doorsteps of 20,000 city households, with friendly visits from a team of recycling promoters who will be collecting information on people's understanding of recycling and deliver the recycling message personally to residents.

Calling cards will be left at households where there is no answer, providing residents with contact details to request further information. The card will also give residents the option of completing an online questionnaire.

Despite a growing awareness of the environmental pressures to recycle, many people still do not do so, and the doorstepping initiative is intended to find out why.
