£400,000 spent on food and drink during Labour's First Term

Local press has revealed that approx £400,000 was spent on food and drink for council staff and councillors last year. This included chocolate bars such as Kit Kats.

Liberal Democrat Council group leader, Peter Coley said the council's performance and value for money select committee, which he chairs, would investigate the issue. He told local press; "This does seem high. The council needs to be cautious about where it is spending money and how it is spending money."

The Labour run City Council which employs more than 15,000 people, said the costs included civic receptions, catering at training events and seminars, plus refreshments at meetings which took place over lunch or outside normal working hours.
