Generals back Nick Clegg on Trident
A group of retired generals have given Nick Clegg and the Liberal Democrat Party support on their proposals to find a cheaper alternative to the replacement of the Trident nuclear deterrent.
The four generals argued that to dismiss other options out of hand would be a "major strategic blunder". Writing in the national paper 'The Times', Field Marshal Lord Bramall, General Lord Ramsbotham, General Sir Hugh Beach and Major General Patrick Cordingley stated that there was a ''Growing consensus that rapid cuts in nuclear forces ... is the way to achieve international security''.
Nick Clegg is the only main party political leader to have opposed finding a like-for-like alternative to Trident.
