A new initiative will be launched today that will see £4 million housing development built on a site near Wycombe Road, to be finished in December 2007.

The project will provide 57 fully self-contained flats, specifically designed to allow older people to live independently and yet have access to all the facilities and support that they might require. This will be achieved by a high standard of design, attention to detail, ongoing consultation with social workers and individually tailored care plans. The flats will be built around a communal street which will house a local shop, a hairdressers, a laundry, a medical treatment room and a health suite.

Councillor Parmjit Singh Gill: "The development of this scheme is an important first step in extending the care and accommodation choices for older people. Its design has taken account of the needs of all of our diverse communities, which is vital in Leicester."
