Ipads for Councillors?

Leicester Liberal Democrats have joined with the public outcry over the Labour run Council's suggestion of forking out £40,000 on Ipads for senior staff and Councillors.

All Leicester city councillors could be given Apple iPads after next year's May elections if trails which are taken place now are successful.

However Lib Dem Council Group Leader Peter Coley has said, "In the current economic climate I believe it is totally wrong to be spending this amount on Ipads, especially when there could be cheaper alternatives on the market."

The trial involves four councillors. Their iPads are being funded from each individual councillor's existing annual support package. Should the pilot prove successful, iPads for councillors will be funded in the same way.
