The entire move has now been estimated at £31 thousand.

Thousands of pounds of taxpayers money is to be spent moving councillors to different offices at the Town Hall - only two years after they were relocated there.

City Council Labour leader Ross Willmott, has instigated the move, he described in local press (20th October) the estimated cost as a "few thousand pounds" that would be spent as "inconsequential". The entire move has now been estimated at £31 thousand.

Offices for the Labour councillors will be moved from the rear of the first floor of the grade two Town Hall building to the two main ground frontal floor committee rooms, overlooking the town square. Money will be spent on rewiring and new furniture.

Leicester Lib Dems have accused the City Council's ruling Labour administration of wasting taxpayers' money and questioned the need for the move. The Lib Dem leader has said, "It is absolutely disgraceful in the current economic climate, that this Labour run Council should be wasting taxpayers' money reorganising the Town Hall just so Labour councillors can have a view of the Town Hall Square and sole use of two elegant rooms which have been committee rooms since 1876."
