Lib Dem Knighton Councillor Joan Garrity, has become the first elected member in the East Midlands to have the Community Planning Champion Title.

Cllr Garrity will act as a ambassador for the East Midlands Planning Aid Service, which gives free advice and support to communities and people who cannot afford a planning consultant.

Councillor Garrity, who has been a member of the Council's Development Control Committee for many years said, "I am delighted to become the first elected member champion in the region. My new role is to make sure people are aware of the independent help that is available to them through the Planning Aid service. Planning shapes the places people live and work, so it is vital people are enabled and empowered to take an active part in that process."
