Labour’s Leicester Recycling Failure. Leicester City Council ranked 278th in Local Authority Lists.

Liberal Democrats in Leicester have uncovered figures citing a decline in Recycling targets reached by Labour run Leicester City Council. The last available figures on the Leicester City Council website is for the year 2013/14.

Website Letsrecycle.com however do quote figures for 2014/15 ranking Leicester City Council at 278th of all authorities with a total of 34.6% waste recycling, or composting rates.

The previous year figures quoted by Leicester City Council advises a 43.05% total figure of Recycling, Composting and Diversion of Waste; almost a 10% drop in 12 months.

These figures are found on top of a poor week for the City Council when it was reported in the Leicester Mercury of 2438 reports of illegal fly-tipping was reported to the City Council in the last year with only a "dirty dozen" being prosecuted. In 2015/16 there were 200 warnings, 24 fines and 1 caution issued. Aylestone Ward's Liberal Democrat Councillor, Nigel Porter called this "pathetic."

Last year City Residents, in particular in Aylestone over the Christmas period went days without a collection of Christmas household waste from the orange bag scheme; the City Council's contractor Biffa eventually faced a fine of £22000 for failing to collect waste on time.
