LCC apprentice’s should help young people out of work, not internal candidates

Bill Boulter is highlighting the fact that a recent report to Leicestershire County Council employment committee has shown that most of the candidates appear to be internal staff.

According to Paper D of Tuesdays Employment Committee the County Council currently employs 47 people apprenticeships and the Leader of the Council has stated a desire to increase this to 100. The government currently compensates councils for those on the scheme up to £95pw.

  • With such high figures for youth unemployment across the Country the aim of this should be finding candidates currently out of work
  • The county should not use the money as means of supplementing the training budget for staff accessing better qualifications
  • Bill has asked for confirmation of how many of the apprentices are external candidates

Bill said, "The money the government is providing should be used to help unemployed young people in the County. I fully support the scheme but it has to make a difference to local young people to access work and training."
