Leicester City Council "Pathetic" amount of Prosecutions concerning Fly Tipping - Aylestone Ward Councillor, Nigel Porter

CNPAW

Leicester's Aylestone Ward Liberal Democrat Councillor, Nigel Porter has called the amount of prosecutions for fly tipping by Leicester City Council as "pathetic" in comments to the Leicester Mercury.

2438 cases of illegal dumping was reported to Leicester City Council last year with only a few being taken to court. 200 warnings were issued, 24 fines and a single caution during 2015/16 according to the Leicester Mercury article "Thouands of Leicester Fly-Tipping investigations last year but only dirty dozen prosecuted" (Wednesday November 30th).

Cllr Porter went on to say: "I know it can be difficult to get prosecutions but it is pathetic. Perhaps they decide it's not worth the expense of chasing someone through the courts but it sends out totally the wrong message. It says if you go out and fly-tip stuff you'll probably get away with it. Now they are also proposing to start charging people to dispose of DIY waste at council tips - the problem is going to get even worse."
