Local Liberal Democrat Councillors have hit back at new statistics that imply that Nottingham has less crime then Leicester. Councillors say that the figures are misleading due to the report's classification of crime - which ranks swearing and urinating in public alongside assault and gun crime.

Councillors say that though they are committed to stamping out incidences of petty crime, they feel that it is unjust to classify minor incidents and more serious crime together- especially as the City of Leicester has just reported a massive decrease in violent crime. Councillor Farmer is quoted as saying "If the media wish to report such an obviously incorrect and irresponsible statement, let them."
