Leicester Hospitals 9th in cancelled operations league

4 Mar 2005

New figures revealed today by Parmjit Singh Gill, Member of Parliament for Leicester South, show that the University Hospitals of Leicester Trust has had 715 cancelled operations so far this year. This means the Trust ranks 9th highest in the country for last minute cancellations for non clinical operations in the whole country.

Analysis of NHS figures commissioned by the Parmjit, reveals:

· Leicester Hospital Trust has the 9th (out of 192!) highest number of cancelled operations out of all the Trusts in the country.

· This means Leicester Hospital Trust is in the highest 5% of Trusts in the Country for Cancelled Hospital Operations.

Commenting on the figures, Parmjit said:

"These figures are highly worrying. To be the 9th highest in the country means that many patients in Leicester in need of operations are continuing to lose out.

"Labour continue to talk up their successes in the NHS, yet the reality in many hospitals is the exact opposite.

"I have written to the Minister asking for a full explanation. People should not have to suffer in silence."
