The Liberal Democrats have announced their Candidates for the forthcoming General Election on Thursday December 12th.

In Leicester East the candidate is Nitesh Dave who was born and raised in Leicester. One of Leicester's first Indian sweet shops, Purnima, was run by his Grandparents.

He works as a teacher at a local school for children with additional needs and disabilities. Nitesh was heavily involved in the campaign that helped save Rushey Mead Library and Community Centre.

Nitesh said: "As a teacher I've seen first hand the damage Tory cuts have had on our public services. I want us to reinvest in health and education in order to build a brighter future."

In Leicester West the candidate is Ian Bradwell who lives in Braunstone and has a long history of volunteering in the area. He helped found "Vision FM", a community radio station, and recently appeared on the BBC to promote the Council Tax discount for those with disabilities.

Ian said: "Our politics is crying out for people from outside the Westminster bubble with experience of everyday life. I want to do my bit to make our country a fairer place for all of us."

In Leicester South the candidate is Chris Coghlan who works for a charity which improves lives of people in England, from the homeless to young people.

He has previously served as a diplomat, a reservist soldier, and founded the charity Grow Movement which trains entrepreneurs in Africa in business skills over mobile phone.

Chris Coghlan said: "Brexit has paralysed our country and stopped us from dealing with the real problems that everyday citizens face. This election gives us an opportunity to end the farce and finally get back to the real issues, such as building homes, reinvesting in education and saving the NHS."
