Leicester's 100 Years Anniversary as a re-granted City Status. Should there have been a City Celebration? asks Scott Kennedy-Lount
Today marks 100 years since Leicester had its City Status re-granted by King George V after visiting the city on June 10th with Queen Mary. According to Leicestershire Live, their article today leads with the title "The important Leicester anniversary most people won't remember." Unfortunately, I, as probably many others across the city am one of them!
Considering our city has rich history, politically, socially and economically their appears to be no celebrations to commemerate the date with any public events either today, or over the weekend. The City Council website is quiet. I don't recall any mention of this last evening at the Full City Council meeting by any of our 54 councillors, City Mayor or the Lord Mayor in her announcements.
Leicestershire Live are correct in its article title; however one could argue if our city custodians have no interest in commemorating an event, how are the rest of Leicester's residents across to be made aware?
