Leicester's Liberal Democrat Treasurer warns Residents to be aware of Telephone Cold Call Fraudsters
Leicester Liberal Democrat Treasurer, Scott Kennedy-Lount has warned the public this afternoon to be wary of telephone cold callers after relatives and friends in the city received calls claiming to be from BT offering a discount.
In the first call Scott was advised the caller asked to confirm name, address and post code before then asking for bank details. At this point the caller was advised as a BT customer you would know my bank details for the monthly standing order at which point the caller ended the conversation.
After the call ended BT were contacted if the call was genuine which they advised wasn't and the phone number 0233787919 was not an existing BT number.
Taking to Social Media afterwards it would appear further calls were made in other areas of the city.
Scott explains "I'd like the public to be made aware of this current scam; especially when it is close to home and considering there are those who may have vulnerable relatives and friends who may fall foul of such activity. This is also a further reminder for the public not to give out bank details or passwords over the telephone from cold callers."
