Work is now under way to ensure the city is awash with floral displays and ready to defend its East Midlands in Bloom title.

Spring bedding is being removed to make way for summer planting next week, with the first signs of colour hopefully being seen from mid-June.

Hanging baskets are due to be put up around the city from the second week in June, in places and in Belgrave Road. Some have been sponsored or bought through the Leicester in Bloom scheme.

It's not too late for local businesses and shops to purchase baskets, sponsor landscape schemes or contribute to the scheme. Anyone interested should contact Hasmita Pabari on (0116) 252 6632.

As winner of East Midlands in Bloom last year, Leicester is also being judged in this year's Britain in Bloom contest.
