Leicestershire Residents to face highest Council Tax rise in 8 years thanks to Tory Government cuts!

The draft budget for Leicestershire County Council was released today. There will be a Council Tax increase of 4%, the highest Council Tax rise in 8 years. There will also be severe cuts to Council services.

Over the next three years, the Government Grant is expected to reduce down to zero and the Council will need to rely entirely on Council Tax and Business rates to fund local services.

Liberal Democrat Finance Spokesperson Keith Lynch said: "The Coalition government took a careful and balanced approach to balancing the budget. Now there's no one to hold the Tories back, they've cut an extra £6m and Leicestershire Residents are paying the price."

"George Osborne promised no tax rises but when he takes such vast amounts of money away from councils, its local residents that end up covering the gap with their Council Tax."
