The Liberal democrat group on Leicestershire County Council have created proposals for £10m to be invested in the local economy.

Simon Galton leader of the Liberal Democrat group said: "Regardless of the intrigue concern Mr Parsons and his future, voters in Leicestershire need to know that the County Council is being proactive in stimulating the local economy and support the creation of Jobs."

The Liberal Democrat notice of motion to the 4th July Council meeting proposes taking £10m from the £110m reserves that the Tory administration has stockpiled and use £6.5m to establish:

  • Skills Fund to ensure that local businesses have a skilled workforce; and a
  • Venture fund to invest in new companies and help established companies to expand.

At the same time the Liberal Democrats are proposing to use £3.5m to reinstate funding for PCSOs and provide additional resources for Highway's improvement (e.g Grass Cutting) and Public Transport.

Simon added: "these are proactive solutions that use the Councils resources to provide a boost to the local economy at a time when it is needed most, I urge the Tories to support this motion."
