Lib Dem’s celebrate enormous swing in Leicestershire County by-election

Local Lib Dems are celebrating a remarkable swing of nearly 24% from the Conservatives in Thursday's Stoney Stanton and Croft by-election.

The Lib Dem candidate Danny Findlay took the party from a distant third on just 9% last year to a strong second on over 32% this time. The Conservative vote fell by over 24%.

Danny Findlay said "I would like to thank everyone who voted for me. I was honoured to receive over a 1,000 votes, in a seat which last year was the strongest Conservative seat in Leicestershire."

Leader of Leicestershire Lib Dem County Councillors Simon Galton said "This election result shows remarkable progress for the local Lib Dems, many Conservative seats would fall to the Lib Dems on a 24% swing. People told us they are fed up with the Tory County Councils huge Council Tax rises and savage cuts to services. These are happening because local Tories have failed to get fair funding from their government for our county.

"This huge swing from Conservative to Lib Dem sends a strong message that people are unhappy with the performance of the Tory County Council and it's time they started listening more to the people of Leicestershire"
