Lib Dems announce £3.8m Youth Jobs plan

21 Feb 2012

Liberal Democrats have announced an amendment to the County Council's budget calling for a two year programme to support Young people on Job Seekers Allowance into 12 week paid placements with local employers.

Simon Galton said; "Liberal Democrats feel that the time is right for the Council to apply its might resources to help the increasing number of young people who are unemployed to find work.

"Our jobs plan complements the Coalition Government's 'Work Programme' by using local resources to support Leicestershire's young people into employment. Overall the Coalition has a duty to target resources at areas with high levels of unemployment but there will still be young people across the County that would benefit from work placements that could lead to work or apprenticeships."

Simon added: "the Local Government Association has called for Councils to look for opportunities to help young people fulfil their potential and Liberal Democrat councillors have answered that call. This programme looks to help in a way that the Tory budget doesn't and we are very proud of what we have developed."
