Lib Dems ‘not surprised’ by Tory rejection of Budget amendments
Leicestershire Liberal Democrats are 'not surprised' the Tories rejection of sustainable and progressive amendments to the County Council's budget.
The Tory administration:
- Picked PR and Communications over youth work
- Rejected investment In Breaking the Barriers (employment service)
- Blocked a sensible method of supporting Natural & Historical Environmental databases and teams - these preserve out County's heritage and supporting planning assessments. The loss of this service will only benefit developers and see a loss of knowledge of Leicestershire's past.
- Rejected a commitment to Leicestershire's music service - meaning that it could be cut later
Simon commented: "the Tories don't really believe in supporting services, only destroying them. I agree with the Young people who protested at the council meeting: "they don't care", and on vulnerable adults they are consigning them to worklessness.
"Our amendments where reasonable and sustainable utilising back office cuts and using reserves to aid changes and avoid drastic cuts - this is what the Tories rejected."
