Liberal Democrat responds to Waste Facility announcement

21 Jun 2010

The Liberal Democrat Group has responded to the list of companies to provide the County Council's new Waste Treatment Facility, and the announcement of the technology and site list.

Bill Boulter, Liberal Democrat Waste Spokesman, said:

"The Liberal Democrats have always opposed large scale Incineration, and we prefer the use of newer technologies such as Mechanical Biological Treatment and anaerobic digestion, we therefore welcome the fact that at least one of the proposals from the remaining companies is based around a non-incinerator model.

It is clear that residents oppose the notion of large scale incineration and we think the time is right to invest into newer technologies that maximise recycling and resource extraction delivering greater flexibility to the local waste problem.

We will continue to promote to benefits of MBT and other technologies, and hope that the Conservatives and Labour groups will support us going forward."
