Liberty Statue is back
The Liberty Statue, which used to be on top of the former Liberty Shoe Factory at the junction of Eastern Boulevard and Walnut Street, has now been placed in its new position.
It now rests on a 4.5-metre plinth on the Swan Gyratory roundabout, just a stone's throw from the site where it originally stood. Liberal Democrat campaigner, Deborah Almey, who campaigned to have the statue reinstated when she was the councillor for the area said, "The liberty statue was a much loved local landmark, I am pleased that its back were it belongs."
The new statue is due to be publicly revealed in a ceremony which also marks the completion of the Upperton Road Viaduct scheme - a prestigious project to replace the old viaduct with a new road, bridge and cycle path.
