The national campaign aims to encourage everyone to minimise waste and recycle more using their local recycling services.

£500 will be given to randomly selected residents who use their green box as an incentive by Biffa. Ten residents will also receive £50 who use their green box correctly and place the right items in it.

A week of activities will also be held in Leicester to show people how they can help the environment by reusing and recycling materials.

The campaign will start off on Monday (5th June) in Humberstone Gate with street theatre from the 'Rubbish Heads', with performances about the importance of recycling and not dumping litter.

Leicester City Council's recycling team will accompany the Rubbish Heads to offer help and advice on recycling. There will also be a recycling-themed competition with great prizes from local businesses.

On Tuesday and Wednesday a composting expert will join the recycling team in Humberstone Gate to offer tips on composting kitchen and garden waste, with compost bins available to buy at a discounted price. Shoppers will have the opportunity to visit the recycling stall on Friday when it moves to Leicester Market.

The following week, focus will shift to sprucing up the city as Leicester City Council launches the Big Summer Clean-Up, with events and activities to keep the city's streets and green spaces clean and tidy.
