New Leader
The Liberal Democrat Group on Leicester City Council have chosen a new leader.
Cllr. Roger Blackmore led the group on the Council for seven years and has stood down and was replaced by fellow Western Park Councillor Peter Coley.
Cllr. Blackmore told local press, "I think it's the right and appropriate time to make way, there's a new chapter in the city's development and it seems the natural time to do it." He went onto to say that during the period as a coalition administration run with the Conservatives, the Lib Dems set in motion a raft of successful policies which will be of lasting benefit for Leicester.
The new in-coming Lib Dem leader Cllr. Coley said, "Roger did a good job. He brought a sense of fairness to politics in the city and there were lots of real improvements, our role now is to scrutinise the running of the council, to make sure that the finances are kept on track and that things continue to be delivered."
