Leicester South MP Parmjit Singh Gill visited Sir Jonathan North Community College as part of "Take your MP to School Day". Taking an assembly for Year 7 students who started at the school in September, he spoke about what it was like in his new job as their local MP and how he first became involved in politics.

He was then taken on a tour of the school by the Principal, Jane Collins, who has worked hard to secure extra funding for specialist subjects, and visited lessons in Science, IT, Art and Drama.

Parmjit Singh Gill said: "I was very impressed with the College, particularly the very high quality of artwork. I enjoyed the visit enormously and promised to return again. When I asked pupils how many wanted to go on to University after leaving school, nearly all of them put their hands up. When I asked how many thought that they shouldn't have to pay to study at University through tuition and top-up fees, it was almost 100%. Only the Liberal Democrats have promised to abolish fees, something which the party has already achieved in Scotland and it was good to know that the pupils shared the same view"
