Pavement Cyclist Crackdown Success in Clarendon Park

Police have had success in cracking down on cyclists riding their bikes illegally on pavements in the Clarendon Park area.

Residents got in touch with their local Castle Ward Councillor Debbie Almey and the police, complaining that cyclists are hogging the pavement on Queens Road in Clarendon Park.

Officers from Welford Road policing Unit have visited the area regularly to "have a small word" with cyclists flouting the law. They are hoping this will be enough, however they are reserving £30 on-the-spot fines for those who continue to break the law after they have received a warning.

Local resident and Ward Councillor Debbie Almey said, "With the exception of children, cyclists who ride on the pavement are a hazard for the elderly because they think they can weave between people without knocking them over, but the elderly can't react if they come too close to them." she went on to say that if motorists took more care when cyclists are on the highway, they'll be less likely to use the footpath.
