Prebend Gardens. Alan Fox raises the Felling of Trees before a Community Consultation to Full Council
Former Liberal Democrat Chair in Leicester, Alan Fox raised an important question to the City Council last Thursday, June 16th concerning the reason for "felling trees in Prebend Gardens commencing 23rd April when a community workshop to consult with local residents about the future development of the park was already planned for the 16 May? Would it have been better to consult first?"
Admitting "in an ideal world it would have been preferable to consult for the workshop" Cllr Adam Clarke continued by saying on Police and Other Bodies advise on the grounds of Public Safety (52 Police incidents in the area in the last year) birds nesting and alleviating subsidence to nearby buildings were the reasons cited for felling the trees ahead of the community workshop meeting.
Mr Fox believes the City Council has misled residents at a recent Stoneygate Community Meeting as they were told "Essential Maintenance" needed to be carried out and "police cameras would be moved to below the tree canopy."
40 trees were felled in the park.
