City Council Leader Roger Blackmore joined Freemen councillor Dale Keeling and Local people, students, the army cadets and others at the Saffron Acres Project on a cold Saturday Afternoon. (27th Jan)

Volunteers helped clear debris at the Copinger Road allotments for the project, which offers school children in the city the opportunity to grow plants and vegetables.

Having only one full-time member of staff on site, the project relied on volunteers to help clear 20 years worth of weeds, bricks and fly-tipping.

The Council Leader then joined councillor Dale Keeling in planting a apple tree for the apple orchard, which is part of the project.
