Over 500 local people attended the first ever Saffron Fete which was held at the Aylestone Recreation Ground today.

The Aylestone, Eyres Monsell and Freemen Area Committee agreed to fund it after calls from residents keen to establish a community event for the area.

Attractions included a fun fair, inflatable football pitch, face painting and a fun run, along with displays, stalls and a raffle.

Funds raised by the fete will be donated to the Wish Upon A Star charity, which arranges dream holidays for seriously-ill children.

Councillor Dale Keeling who organised the fete said, "It's been a fantastic day, with everyone pulling together to make it a success not just for Saffron, but the community as a whole."
