Cllr. Peter Coley; "Solar water heating is probably the next most cost effective energy saver after loft insulation and double glazing."

Leicester Liberal Democrat leader Councillor Peter Coley has asked the City Council to look into the feasibility of providing solar heating for the city's residents.

Councillor Peter Coley is suggesting that the City Council use it's expertise to design, using commercially available components, a solar water heating package that can be sourced in bulk and sold on to homeowners in the City at cost price as a way of reducing peoples bills at no cost to the City.

With the spiralling cost of energy and the fact that the UK has a target of 60% reduction in C02 by 2050 Councillor Peter Coley also asked Council officers to look into the possibility of assessing which products work best and can be sourced as value for money packages which can be supplied to all interested authorities. Cllr. Peter Coley said, "I am not ruling out other products such as PV but I believe that currently, solar water heating is probably the next most cost effective energy saver after loft insulation and double glazing."
