Speed of Tory U-turns increasing says local Lib Dems

6 Apr 2011

Cllr Bill Boulter has been campaigning to protect the future of the 'Breaking the Barriers' schemes which provide employment opportunities and training for disabled and lesser able adults across the county. The Tories have persistently tried to cut this much loved service, but thanks to pressure from Cllr Boulter and supporters of the scheme the Tories have given a reprieve to some the of projects.

Bill said: "I am pleased that the Tories have u-turned on this issue, of course I want the whole project to be saved, but people power has got us this far who knows what the future holds. I would especially like to thank the 40 people who took the time and trouble to come to the Cabinet meeting today."

He added: "what is interesting is that it took the Tories a whole year to adopt our ideas from last year, now they are starting to do the same with the issues we raised barely a month ago. It is really quite interesting after they rejected an amendment I proposed to save this service in the budget; they are now accepting that the service should continue for at least another year."
