Hinckley Councillor David Bill appeared on local BBC radio to talk about the financial challenges the Council faces, and also about the discovery of oil in Loughborough, and why we need to make full use of it.

Earlier this month, the Tories made a decision to make cutbacks to school transport, including transport for 16+ students. This means that students who rely on public transport to attend A Levels or College will miss out. This is despite the consultation showing unprecedented opposition to the measure, with 90% of respondents being against.
They originally tried to make these cuts last year, but had to withdraw them due to the outcry they caused. There was no further mention of them until after they got re-elected… I wonder why…

The Tories have taken a very cavalier approach to supporting local schools.
They ran down the School Improvement Service, thinking that they wouldn't have to support local schools as more of them changed to academies. Simon and Don repeatedly warned them that the Council mustn't neglect its duties to support local schools!
Now Ofsted have confirmed that Local Authorities do have a statutory duty to support and challenge schools. The Leicestershire County Council needs to have the necessary services in place to meet these requirements and we will scrutinise them carefully to ensure that they do!
