Troy is committed to community involvement in local government.

A by-election will be held in the Castle Ward of the City after the sad death of the Castle Councillor.

The Leicester Liberal Democrats have chosen Troy Lavers as their candidate. Troy said, "This election has been called by sad and tragic circumstances, however I will try to live up to the standard needed."

Troy Lavers is a Lecturer in Law at the University of Leicester since 2002. Troy moved to Leicester from Canterbury where she taught and studied for her PhD at the University of Kent at Canterbury. She is a strong supporter of student activism. Her research is in International Law, she has published on the topics of jurisdiction, international criminal law, extraordinary rendition, and the crime of aggression.

Troy is also involved in research that deals with violence against women in conflict. She is a visiting lecturer at Paris X Nanterre. Her community work has focused on environmental issues and community's use of green spaces with her involvement with the Friends of Castle Hill Country Park.
