Tories Forced to Rethink Cuts to Homelessness Services

Opposition Councillors on Leicestershire County Council have "called in" a decision by the Conservative run Cabinet to cut funding for prevention services for homeless people. The "call in" procedure can be used to force a re-think on a decision if councillors believe there is a flaw in the process or if evidence has not been listened to. The "call in" has been signed by Liberal Democrat and Labour councillors.

Tories “Still not Listening” on Homelessness Services

Leicestershire Tories have been accused of failing to listen after rejecting calls to rethink a decision to cut homelessness services. The decision, made in September, was "called in" by Liberal Democrat and Labour councillors who accused the Tories of ignoring evidence submitted by charitable organisations who provide homelessness services and have expressed concerns over the cuts to homelessness services.

Tories Forced to u-Turn on Street Lighting

After staunchly opposing Lib Dem proposals to invest reserves in green LED lights rather than switch lights out, the Tories made a surprise u-turn as they gave Council officers the go ahead to start building a business plan to do it. By investing £24m in LED lights and a Central Management System, the Council now hopes to make over £2 million in energy and efficient savings per year.
