Cross Party Praise for Comic Relief Anniversary

Ahead of Red Noise day this Friday, Parmjit Singh Gill, Member of Parliament for Leicester South, has tabled an Early Day Motion in Parliament, which has provided an opportunity for all Members of Parliament to formally voice their support the activities being organised for the 20th Anniversary of Comic Relief, and Red Noise Day 2005. The EDM has already received cross party support from over forty other Members of Parliament.

From Western Ghana to Westminster--Gill meets Fairtrade farmers

Yesterday in Westminster, Parmjit Singh Gill, Member of Parliament for Leicester South, met with Fairtrade Cocoa farmers from Western Ghana. The farmers are currently touring different venues in London as part of the national Fairtrade Fortnight 2005 (1st-13th March). The theme of this years fortnight is 'Check Out Fairtrade' which aims to make a direct link between cocoa growers and UK chocolate lovers, and give a compelling reason to switch to Fairtrade products in supermarkets and food stores.

East Midlands lags behind in recycling improvement league

Today, the Government has released recycling figures for each region in the country. Analysis by Parmjit Singh Gill, Member of Parliament for Leicester, South can now reveal that the East Midlands lags behind the national average improvement for recycling. While welcoming the overall increase recycling levels, Parmjit is now calling for reform on the way these figures are collected.

Leicester Hospitals 9th in cancelled operations league

New figures revealed today by Parmjit Singh Gill, Member of Parliament for Leicester South, show that the University Hospitals of Leicester Trust has had 715 cancelled operations so far this year. This means the Trust ranks 9th highest in the country for last minute cancellations for non clinical operations in the whole country.

Leicester Students take their case to Parliament and meet with local MP

Today, Parmjit Singh Gill, Member of Parliament for Leicester South met students from Leicester and De Montfort Universities and Leicester College at the Palace of Westminster. This comes on the day the National Union of Students (NUS) hosted a meeting in Parliament on Further and Higher Education. This event brought together student officers from across the UK. Discussions focused on their concerns and grievances for Higher Education and the Governments decision in introduce University Tuition and Top-up fees.
