Leicester's 100 Years Anniversary as a re-granted City Status. Should there have been a City Celebration? asks Scott Kennedy-Lount

Today marks 100 years since Leicester had its City Status re-granted by King George V after visiting the city on June 10th with Queen Mary. According to Leicestershire Live, their article today leads with the title "The important Leicester anniversary most people won't remember." Unfortunately, I, as probably many others across the city am one of them!

Popular Liberal Democrats Local Ward Councillor returned to Leicester City Council after Topping Poll in Aylestone Ward

After the Leicester City Council elections on Thursday 2nd May, Aylestone Ward's Liberal Democrat Councillor, Nigel Porter was left as the sole Opposition Councillor on Leicester City Council. Since his first election to the City Council in 2004, Councillor Porter's local popularity returned him back to the Town Hall topping the poll in Aylestone with 972 votes, 49 ahead of Labour who took the second seat. The Liberal Democrats were then placed third in the two member ward. The result maintained the status quo in Aylestone which began in 2011.
