Reacting to the news that David Parsons, Leader of Leicestershire County Council has failed in his bid to become Chairman of the Local Government Association, Liberal Democrat leader Simon Galton has offered his condolences but stressed that it is now time to get back to dealing with local issues and priorities here in Leicestershire.
Leicestershire Liberal Democrats are proposing that the benefits of a projected surplus on the Council's Budget for 2010/11 should be used to protect vital community services. A report to the Councils Cabinet on the 14th June projects a budget surplus of £5.89m.
Liberal Democrats have responded to the announced Big Society Grant Fund as being "better than nothing but far short of what is needed".

Glenfield Hospital only appears in one of the four options for future children's heart surgery. Zuffar Haq and the local Lib Dems want to keep the unit here in Leicester.
Cllr Bill Boulter has been campaigning to protect the future of the 'Breaking the Barriers' schemes which provide employment opportunities and training for disabled and lesser able adults across the county. The Tories have persistently tried to cut this much loved service, but thanks to pressure from Cllr Boulter and supporters of the scheme the Tories have given a reprieve to some the of projects.
